Have you ever wondered what are the best kitchen knife brands in the world and what are they known for? Don’t bother looking anywhere else because I will write down all of the details about every important brand.

Note: I have wrote at least 1 in-depth review of every brand’s kitchen knife or a knife set on my website. I will update this list as soon as I add more brands to my lists of recommendations that are located in the “best buys” section.

Quick links:

Wusthof

It’s not a secret that Wusthof is my favorite kitchen knife manufacturer. I have reviewed several of their products and I’m sure that I will review many more of them. It’s a family-owned company based in Solingen, Germany. It was established in 1814, so it’s one of those brands with the longest tradition and worldwide reputation.

Their knives are known for their quality and long lifespan. It’s not a surprise that many world’s most famous chefs are using them, including Jamie Oliver, Gordon Ramsey, and Martha Stewart.

Wusthof knives are usually made of high-carbon stainless steel and they come with a lifetime warranty. Their only downside is an above average price, but that’s just a price for quality.

J.A. Henckels (Zwilling)

If you thought that Wusthof is the oldest knife company on my list, you were wrong. J.A. Henckels is also based in Solingen, but it was established in 1731 which is 83 years sooner.

J.A. Henckels knives usually feature a traditional design. Their most known knife series are TWIN Select, Four Star, Four Star II, and Professional S, which are all forged from a single high-carbon stainless steel piece, and ice hardened to improve resistance against stains.

J.A. Hanckels and Wusthof companies are the main reason why Solingen is recognized as the “world’s capital of cutlery”.

Chicago Cutlery

Chicago Cutlery brand is owned by the World Kitchen LCC. Their vision has been more or less the same for the past 80 years: making quality kitchen knives as simple as possible for both professional chefs and everyone who loves to cook.

Although Chicago Cutlery knives are manufactured in China, they are known for their quality, perfect balance, and great value for the money. Don’t be surprised if most of their kitchen knife sets cost about 3x less than those from Wusthof or J.A. Henckels.

Shun

Shun is one of the most popular knife brands in the USA and across the globe. It’s owned by Kershaw Knives that was founded in 1974. It’s my favorite Japanese-style knife brand in the world and I’m sure that I will review many more of their products in the upcoming articles.

Shun Premier is the most popular line of Shun products. This product line has won a “Kitchen Knife of the Year” award in 2010 among many other awards won by Kershaw Knives. Most of Shun knives come with a lifetime warranty, and they are among the most beautifully designed ones.
