What’s the best bread knife?

Slicing bread and bread rolls is one of the most basic food preparation tasks that require a kitchen knife. I don’t know about you, but the first food I ever prepared for myself was a sandwich and I’m sure there are many people out there with the same experience.

A good serrated bread knife isn’t just good for slicing bread, it can also be your best friend when you need to slice watermelons and similarly large items. So why wouldn’t you choose the one that will stay sharp for years to come, and will cut through bread like through butter?

bread knives

Here are some of my top picks of this category. I believe all of them are great buys at the moment, but the final decision comes down to personal preference.

Victorinox 47547 10-1/4-Inch Wavy

Let’s start with an affordable option. Victorinox produces some of the best value for the money bread knives on the planet, so it’s not a surprise that more than 1 of their products managed to get on my list of recommendations. Most of them come with a lifetime warranty that is provided by the manufacturer.

The Victorinox 47547 is on the top of my list of bread knives.

It’s basically a great all-around bread knife with professional level of quality. Speaking about quality, the 47547 comes with a lifetime warranty against any possible manufacturer defects. So, you can be pretty sure that it will help you with food preparation tasks for years to come. Patented Fibrox handles are ergonomically designed and they provide plenty of much needed control during the operation.

List of features and specifications:

  • Available in 2 sizes – 8 inch and 10.25 inch.

Global G-9

Design is the first thing most people look for whenever they are searching for their next kitchen knife, and I believe there aren’t many knives on the market that look as good as the Global G-9. If I tell you the truth, it should be on top of my list of recommendations, but there is just one problem; it comes with an above average price.

If your budget allows you to spend 3-digits on a futuristic and modern bread knife, I believe this is one of the most interesting models on the market right now.

The blades are made of molybdenum/vanadium stainless steel with a long taper, so its edges remain sharper longer than on many other knives on the market.

List of features and specifications:

  • Available in 1 size – 8-3/4 inch.
  • Very lightweight and precisely balanced.
  • Futuristic and modern design.
  • High quality molybdenum/vanadium stainless steel blade.
  • Comfortable dimpled stainless-steel handle.
  • Hand washing recommended.
  • Lifetime warranty provided by the manufacturer.

Wusthof Classic

Wusthof is a relatively small company located in Germany with very long tradition and established reputation all across the world. Company was founded in 1814, which is more than 200 years ago. I’m sure that I will recommend much more of their products in the future.

Unlike Global G-9, Wusthof Classic comes in a very traditional design.

There are 3 sizes to choose from – 8, 9, and 10 inch. They don’t cost the same, so you can save about $30 by picking the smallest 8-inch one. Just like most Wusthof products, this one comes a limited lifetime warranty.

List of features and specifications:

  • Available in 3 sizes – 8, 9, and 10 inch.
  • Traditional design.
  • Forged from a single piece of high-carbon stainless steel.
  • Triple-riveted handle shells.
  • Safe to wash in dishwasher.
  • Limited lifetime warranty is provided by the manufacturer.
